IMD Weather Update: Rain and Thunderstorms Likely Across Several States on October 10
The southwest monsoon continues to retreat, but the IMD has forecast rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several states on October 10. Kerala and Tamil Nadu may receive heavy rain at isolated places.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast rain and thunderstorms across several parts of India on Saturday, October 10, even as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal.
Kerala and Tamil Nadu may receive heavy rainfall at isolated places. Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds reaching 40–50 kmph.
Punjab, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan may also see isolated thunderstorms with lightning and winds of 30–40 kmph. Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall.
Southern and Eastern India May See Showers
Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to experience isolated heavy rain, with thunderstorms and gusty winds also possible. Lakshadweep may see similar weather activity.
Parts of Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha may experience thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 30–40 kmph. Bihar, West Bengal, Sikkim and northeastern states may also receive rain.
Monsoon Withdrawal Continues
The IMD said conditions remain favourable for the southwest monsoon to withdraw from additional areas over the next three to four days. However, its retreat does not mean rainfall will stop everywhere.
A cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand and neighbouring areas is expected to move into the Andaman Sea around October 11. A low-pressure area may develop over the southeast Bay of Bengal around October 13, potentially influencing weather in the following days.
Residents should follow official IMD updates for local forecasts and weather warnings.
