Jason Sanjay Says Sigma Will Shape His Identity as a Director
Jason Sanjay says his debut film Sigma will determine how audiences see him as a filmmaker beyond his identity as Vijay’s son.
Jason Sanjay, the 25-year-old son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor Vijay, has spoken about the challenge of building an identity separate from his family legacy as he prepares to make his directorial debut with Sigma.
In an interview, Jason acknowledged that audiences will inevitably view his debut through the lens of his father’s stardom and political career. He said he thinks about the issue frequently but is focused on creating his own space as a filmmaker.
Jason said he has tried to keep Sigma within his own creative world, concentrating on his vision rather than allowing his family background to define the project. According to him, once audiences begin watching the film, the focus should shift from his surname to the work itself.
He said the response to Sigma, whether positive or negative, will ultimately influence how people perceive him as a director. He also hopes the film will provide a foundation for building his career and establishing an identity beyond his debut.
Jason said he admires his father’s sense of humour and the relaxed, playful side of Vijay that he has seen while growing up. He added that he would like to explore that side of his father through a future film if he gets the opportunity.
Sigma stars Sundeep Kishan and Faria Abdullah and marks Jason Sanjay’s debut as a director. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on October 2.
