Raghava Lawrence has been unveiled as Karna in Mahaveer Karna, Ramesh Varma’s reported Rs 150-crore mythological epic scheduled for release in December 2026.
Raghava Lawrence has been unveiled as Karna in director Ramesh Varma’s upcoming mythological epic Mahaveer Karna. The makers released his first look on September 22, revealing the actor in a dramatic warrior avatar for the five-language project.
The film is being mounted on a reported budget of Rs 150 crore and marks Lawrence’s first major role in a mythology-based project. Pen Movies released the poster with the tagline, “A Face. A Legend. A Warrior.” Lawrence also shared the first look across multiple languages, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to portray the iconic Mahabharata character.
Karna is one of the Mahabharata’s most prominent figures, known for his courage, generosity, loyalty and complex journey shaped by questions of identity, rejection and allegiance. Mahaveer Karna is expected to explore his story on a large scale, combining live-action filmmaking with extensive visual effects.
Presented by Jayantilal Gada, the film is being produced by Pen Movies, Sri Neeladri Productions and RV Studios. It is planned as a multilingual release in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada.
Ramesh Varma, known for films including Rakshasudu and Khiladi, is directing the project. The technical team includes cinematographer and hybrid creator Ramji Dott, editor Prawin Pudi, dialogue writer Shreemani and music composer Gnaani.
Mahaveer Karna is currently scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 4, 2026. If the poster is anything to go by, Lawrence is clearly trading his usual mass-action zone for a full mythology makeover.
