RGV and Mohit Suri Team Up for Dawood-Chhota Rajan Crime Drama

Filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma and Mohit Suri are collaborating on a crime drama inspired by the split between underworld figures Dawood Ibrahim and Chhota Rajan. Varma has revealed that the film will explore the period surrounding their fallout, the aftermath of the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts and the involvement of Indian intelligence agencies in subsequent events.
According to Varma, the story revolves around a character named Sautya and examines developments that followed the Dawood-Rajan split. While Varma wrote the script, he said Suri has expanded the material with his own approach to emotional storytelling, music and realistic action.
The collaboration brings together Varma’s association with gritty crime dramas and Suri’s experience with character-driven stories. Varma has described the upcoming film as ambitious in scale while retaining a strong emotional core.
The project was previously teased by Varma and Suri on social media, with Varma describing their collaboration as a combination of romance and gangster elements.
Suri is working on the project after the success of Saiyaara, while Varma continues to develop several films, including the horror-comedy Police Station Mein Bhoot featuring Manoj Bajpayee.
The upcoming film is expected to revisit a significant chapter in Mumbai’s underworld history while incorporating the filmmakers’ distinct storytelling styles. Details about the cast, title and release date have not yet been announced.
