Yami Gautam Wins First National Award for Article 370
Yami Gautam received her first National Film Award for Best Actress for Article 370 and said she is still soaking in the honour while having much more to learn.
Yami Gautam is still taking in the significance of winning her first National Film Award for Best Actress for Article 370. The actor received the honour from President Droupadi Murmu at the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar.
Speaking after the ceremony, Yami described the award as a major honour and reflected on the years of work and uncertainty that come with pursuing an acting career. She said artists often arrive in Mumbai with dreams without knowing where their journeys will lead, making recognition of this kind particularly meaningful.
Yami also made it clear that she does not see the National Award as a finish line. She said there is still much to learn and plenty of work left in her journey, while expressing gratitude for the recognition and the respect it represents.
Article 370 also had a strong showing at the National Film Awards. The film won Best Feature Film, while Shashwat Sachdev received the award for Best Music Direction. Directed by Aditya Suhas Jambhale, the film features Yami Gautam alongside Priyamani, Skand Thakur and other actors.
Released in February 2024, Article 370 is based on events surrounding the 2019 revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. The film is currently available to stream on Netflix.
For Yami, the award may be a first National Award, but judging by her own words, the learning curve is clearly still very much open.
