Bill Gates Apologises Over Epstein Links: Report

Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has reportedly apologised to employees of the Gates Foundation over his past association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

The report claims that Gates addressed the issue during a recent town hall meeting with foundation staff.

Admission and Clarification

As per the publication, Gates acknowledged having had two affairs with Russian women. He stated that these relationships did not involve any of Epstein’s victims.

In the reported recording reviewed by the newspaper, Gates said, “I did nothing illicit. I saw nothing illicit.” He also clarified that he never spent time with individuals identified as victims connected to Epstein.

Gates reportedly said that some photographs released in the recent batch of documents — often referred to as the “Epstein files” — were taken at Epstein’s request after meetings.

‘Huge Mistake’ to Meet Epstein

During the town hall, Gates described his association with Epstein as a “huge mistake,” according to the report. He apologised to foundation employees, saying his actions had drawn unwanted attention to the philanthropic organisation.

“It was a huge mistake to spend time with Epstein,” Gates was quoted as saying. He also acknowledged that he involved foundation executives in meetings with Epstein, which he now regrets.

An organisation spokesperson reportedly said that Gates “spoke candidly” and “took responsibility for his actions.”

Background of the Case

Jeffrey Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to charges related to soliciting a minor. He later faced federal charges before his death in 2019.

Last month, the U.S. Justice Department released a large set of documents related to Epstein. The files included emails, call logs, photographs and interview transcripts, some of which were redacted. Several public figures were named in connection with past associations, though being mentioned does not imply wrongdoing.

According to the report, Gates first met Epstein in 2011, three years after Epstein’s earlier conviction. Gates reportedly said he did not properly review Epstein’s background before continuing the meetings.

The report also states that Gates continued contact even after concerns were raised by his then-wife, Melinda French Gates, in 2013.

Impact on the Foundation

Gates reportedly admitted that his connection with Epstein had affected the reputation of the Gates Foundation.

He said the situation went against the foundation’s values and goals. In previous interviews, Gates had described his meetings with Epstein as “foolish” and said he believed at the time that they might help advance global health philanthropy — a goal he later acknowledged was not achieved.

There has been no indication from authorities that Gates has been charged with any wrongdoing in connection with Epstein.

The developments have renewed public attention on past associations between Epstein and prominent global figures, as further details from official records continue to emerge.
