FY27 Union Budget Likely on Feb 1, Economic Survey Expected on Jan 29

The Union government is expected to present the Union Budget for FY27 on February 1, continuing the post-2017 convention, even though the date falls on a Sunday. The government is yet to make a formal announcement on the schedule.

According to official indications, the Budget Session of Parliament is likely to begin on January 28 with the President’s address. The Economic Survey for 2025–26 is expected to be tabled the following day, on January 29, offering a comprehensive assessment of the economy ahead of the Budget presentation.

Despite February 1 coinciding with Guru Ravidas Jayanti, a government holiday in several states, the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs is understood to have upheld the date as fixed, in line with recent practice. Parliament is expected to remain in recess on January 30 and will not sit on January 31, before reconvening on February 1 for the Budget.

The upcoming Budget will be closely watched for policy signals on fiscal consolidation, infrastructure spending, social sector outlays, taxation reforms, and growth priorities, especially amid global economic uncertainty and evolving trade dynamics.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expected to present the Budget in Parliament, marking another key milestone in the government’s economic policy calendar for 2026–27.
