IIT Hyderabad Student Edward Nathan Varghese Meets Director After Record ₹2.5 Crore Placement

A final-year student of Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad has met the institute’s director after securing the highest placement package in the university’s history, marking a proud moment for the campus.

Edward Nathan Varghese recently interacted with IIT Hyderabad director B S Murty following his record ₹2.5 crore annual job offer. The interaction was shared through an official video posted on the institute’s social media platforms.

According to the institute, the offer is the highest ever secured by a student since IIT Hyderabad was established in 2008. In the video, the director is seen congratulating Varghese and praising his achievement, calling it a moment of pride for the institution.

Varghese, visibly emotional during the interaction, reflected on his academic journey and said he had not anticipated such an outcome. He credited the institute’s faculty, curriculum and academic ecosystem for supporting him throughout his years at IIT Hyderabad.

The institute shared the clip with a message celebrating the milestone, highlighting the student’s dedication, perseverance and academic excellence.

Global Role and Career Path

Varghese has received the offer from Netherlands-based trading firm Optiver and is set to join the company as a software engineer from July. He later described the moment he learned about the offer as unforgettable, noting that the company was the first and only organisation he interviewed with during the placement season. The news was met with joy by his family, both of whom are engineers.

Preparation and Academic Advantage

Reflecting on his preparation, Varghese said his early involvement in competitive programming played a key role in his success. He noted that he consistently ranked among the top performers nationally and benefited from IIT Hyderabad’s flexible curriculum, which allowed students to explore a wide range of courses.

He added that the institute’s academic structure and exposure helped him crack the interview process and secure a pre-placement offer, which later converted into the final role.

The achievement has once again highlighted IIT Hyderabad’s growing reputation for producing globally competitive talent amid a challenging job market.
