Iran Conflict Escalates; Sirens Sound in Bahrain

Tensions in the Middle East conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran intensified on Monday after air-raid sirens sounded in Bahrain, with authorities urging residents to move to safe locations.

According to Bahrain’s interior ministry, citizens and residents were asked to remain calm and head to the nearest safe place as the country responded to reported security threats.

Officials said a drone attack linked to Iran caused injuries and damage in the Sitra area, while the country’s largest oil refinery was also affected during the overnight strikes.

Oil Refinery Hit, Force Majeure Declared

Following the attack, Bahrain’s state oil company reportedly declared force majeure after the BAPCO refinery was struck.

Images and eyewitness accounts cited by international media showed thick smoke rising around the refinery complex after the incident.

Authorities reported that at least 32 people were injured in the overnight strikes, including several civilians.

Regional Attacks and Defence Responses

The conflict continued to spread across several parts of the region.

Air defence systems in the United Arab Emirates reportedly intercepted incoming missiles and drones, while authorities said defence systems were actively responding to aerial threats.

In Qatar, officials said the country’s armed forces intercepted a missile targeting the Gulf state. Residents were earlier advised to stay indoors as a precaution.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia said its air force intercepted and destroyed a drone heading toward the Shaybah oilfield, a major crude oil production facility.

Explosions and Military Activity Reported

Reports also indicated explosions in several locations across the region.

Fresh explosions were heard in Tehran, while air-raid sirens were activated across parts of Israel, including Tel Aviv and Haifa.

In Lebanon, local authorities reported casualties after Israeli strikes on areas in the south of the country. According to regional reports, at least three people were killed and several others injured.

Military officials in Israel said the air force carried out strikes targeting Iranian security infrastructure and missile launch facilities, claiming the sites posed a threat to Israeli territory.

Attacks in Iraq and Gulf Region

Security incidents were also reported in Iraq, where rockets and drones targeted a US diplomatic facility near Baghdad International Airport. Reports said defence systems intercepted the projectiles.

Another drone reportedly struck near a US military base close to Erbil Airport in the Kurdistan region.

Elsewhere, explosions were reported in Doha, with Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia confirming new aerial threats.

Oil Prices Surge

Global markets reacted to the escalating conflict, with oil prices rising sharply. Brent crude reportedly surged past $100 per barrel, marking one of the largest daily gains since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Stock markets across Asia also declined amid concerns over supply disruptions and geopolitical risks.

Political Developments in Iran

Amid the escalating tensions, Iran announced that Mojtaba Khamenei, the son of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, had been appointed as the country’s new Supreme Leader.

Iranian officials described the appointment as a step toward strengthening national unity during the ongoing conflict.

The situation in the region remains fluid, with governments across the Middle East continuing to monitor developments and strengthen security measures.
