PM Modi to Launch Two New Delhi Metro Corridors
Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate two new corridors of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation on Sunday, further expanding the capital’s public transport network.
The prime minister will also lay the foundation stones for several development projects in the national capital with a total estimated value of around ₹33,500 crore. Officials said he is also expected to address a public gathering during the event.
Two Metro Corridors to Be Inaugurated
The new sections include the Majlis Park–Maujpur–Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line and the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line.
Once operational, the Pink Line will extend to 71.56 kilometres, completing what officials describe as the country’s first fully operational “ring metro” system that connects large parts of Delhi.
Stations along the newly opened Pink Line stretch include Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura and Yamuna Vihar, before reaching Maujpur-Babarpur.
Officials said the corridor is expected to improve connectivity between north-east and north-west Delhi, helping commuters travel across the city more quickly.
Extension of the Magenta Line
The second corridor to be inaugurated is the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line.
With this addition, the Magenta Line will extend to about 49 kilometres. The route is an extension of the existing Botanical Garden–Krishna Park Extension corridor.
The new stretch will include seven elevated stations, such as Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura–Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Village, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalswa.
Officials also highlighted that the Majlis Park–Maujpur corridor features a bridge across the Yamuna river and a double-decker viaduct, which will carry both a metro line and a road flyover.
Phase 5 Expansion Projects
Apart from the inauguration, the prime minister will lay foundation stones for three additional metro corridors under Phase 5(A).
These projects include:
-
A 9.913 km underground Central Vista corridor connecting Ramakrishna Ashram Marg and Indraprastha
-
A 2.263 km underground extension of the Golden Line between Aerocity and Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1
-
A 3.9 km elevated Golden Line extension linking Tughlakabad and Kalindi Kunj
Officials said these new corridors will strengthen connectivity between Delhi and nearby National Capital Region (NCR) cities such as Noida, Faridabad and Ballabhgarh.
Housing Redevelopment Projects Also Planned
During the event, the government will also launch projects worth around ₹15,200 crore for the redevelopment of General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) colonies.
Earlier, Rekha Gupta said that expanding the metro network remains a priority for improving the city’s public transport system.
According to her, the Delhi government has allocated significant resources for public transport in the 2025–26 budget.
