Police in Madhya Pradesh have arrested a man accused of killing a 16-year-old boy in Samanna village of Damoh district, officials said.
The accused, identified as Gudda Patel, was taken into custody on Thursday after villagers alerted authorities about the incident.
Teen Attacked While Returning Home
According to police, the victim, a resident of Arthkheda village, had come to Samanna village to visit his sister.
Officials said the teenager was returning on his motorcycle when the accused allegedly attacked him with an iron rod and later struck him with a hammer. The boy died at the scene due to the injuries, a police officer said.
Villagers’ Claims Under Investigation
Police stated that some villagers claimed they saw the accused behaving in a disturbing manner near the victim’s body.
According to the officer, witnesses alleged that Patel attempted to harm the body after the attack. Authorities said these claims are being examined as part of the investigation.
Villagers Confront Suspect
After hearing the victim’s screams, several villagers reportedly rushed to the location. When they tried to catch the suspect, he allegedly threatened them with the hammer.
Police said the accused later hid in nearby agricultural fields. Villagers reportedly followed him and alerted the police.
A police team reached the area and surrounded the field. After about an hour of search and attempts to control the situation, the accused was detained and taken to the police station.
Investigation Ongoing
Officials said Patel had previously been arrested in connection with the killing of his wife several years ago and was released from jail earlier this year.
Police are now investigating the motive behind the teenager’s murder. Authorities have also begun recording statements from witnesses and villagers present at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials say further details will emerge after questioning the accused and reviewing evidence.
