A dramatic incident unfolded in Bihar’s Gopalganj district when a young woman climbed a mobile tower and demanded the release of her boyfriend, who had been detained by police following a complaint from her family.
The incident reportedly occurred in Bankata Jagirdari village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Bhore police station. The situation created tension in the area and drew the attention of villagers and police officials.
Boyfriend Detained After Family Complaint
According to police officials, the woman, identified as Arpita Kumari, had been in a relationship with a local youth named Pawan Chauhan.
Police said Arpita allegedly went missing from her home on Thursday night. After searching for her, family members filed a complaint at Bhore police station, suspecting that Pawan may have abducted her.
Acting on the complaint, police detained Pawan for questioning.
Woman Climbs Tower in Protest
On Friday morning, villagers informed police that a young woman had climbed a mobile tower in the village. When officers reached the location, they found Arpita sitting at the top of the structure.
Officials requested her to come down safely, but she reportedly refused and demanded that Pawan be released from police custody. She also insisted that the two should be allowed to marry.
Despite repeated appeals from police personnel and villagers, the woman remained on the tower for several hours.
Standoff Ends After Boyfriend Brought to Spot
To resolve the situation, police eventually brought Pawan Chauhan—who was still in handcuffs—to the site.
After seeing him, Arpita agreed to climb down from the tower, bringing the standoff to an end.
Family Opposes Marriage
Police said the woman’s family later arrived at the police station and attempted to persuade her to return home. However, Arpita reportedly maintained that she wanted to marry Pawan.
Family members, according to officials, are opposed to the marriage.
Authorities said efforts are currently underway to counsel both sides and resolve the dispute peacefully.
