Project Hail Mary India Release Delayed to March 26

The India release of Ryan Gosling’s upcoming science-fiction film “Project Hail Mary” has been postponed by a week. The film will now release in Indian cinemas on March 26, instead of its earlier planned date of March 20.

The decision means the film will avoid a direct box-office clash with Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film “Dhurandhar: The Revenge,” also known as Dhurandhar 2, which is scheduled to release on March 19.

The new release date was confirmed on Friday by Sony Pictures India and IMAX India.

Release Across Multiple Languages

According to the announcement, Project Hail Mary will release in India in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and will be distributed internationally by Sony Pictures International Releasing.

The change in schedule applies only to the Indian market. The film is still expected to release in the United States on March 20.

Story and Cast

The film is based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel “Project Hail Mary.” Weir is also known for writing The Martian, which was later adapted into a successful film.

The story follows Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, a school teacher who wakes up aboard a spacecraft after a coma and must complete a mission to save Earth. During the journey, he encounters an alien character who becomes an unexpected ally.

The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for projects such as The Lego Movie and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Other actors in the cast include Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub.

Early Reactions

The film has already received early reactions from members of the film industry and media. Director Guillermo del Toro praised the movie in an early response, describing it as emotional and visually engaging.

While full reviews are yet to be released widely, the early responses have generated positive interest among movie fans.

Dhurandhar 2 Set for March 19 Release

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge is set to release in theatres on March 19.

The film is the sequel to the 2025 action thriller “Dhurandhar,” which reportedly earned around ₹1300 crore worldwide.

The sequel will see several actors returning, including Sara Arjun, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, and Sanjay Dutt.

The storyline continues the story of an Indian intelligence agent infiltrating a criminal network in Lyari, Pakistan, according to earlier reports.

Box Office Calendar Adjustments

Industry observers note that adjusting release dates to avoid major box-office clashes is a common practice in the film industry.

With Project Hail Mary now releasing on March 26, both films will get separate release windows in India, potentially allowing them to attract audiences without competing directly during opening week.
