Shahid Kapoor’s O Romeo faces controversy as Hussain Ustara’s daughter demands ₹2 crore, seeks release halt

The upcoming Bollywood film O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor, has landed in controversy just days after its teaser release. The makers of the film have reportedly received a legal notice from the daughter of slain Mumbai gangster Hussain Ustara, demanding ₹2 crore and seeking a halt to the film’s release.

According to reports, Sanober Shaikh, Ustara’s daughter, has written to producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director Vishal Bhardwaj, claiming that O Romeo allegedly portrays her father in a negative light and harms the family’s reputation. The letter reportedly asks the makers to either address her concerns or postpone the film’s theatrical release.

So far, the film’s team has not issued any official response to the demand.

Is O Romeo inspired by Hussain Ustara?

While the teaser of O Romeo hints at a gritty, violent narrative with strong romantic undertones, the makers have not confirmed whether the story is directly inspired by Hussain Ustara’s life. Ustara was known for his long-standing feud with underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, making the speculation around the film’s inspiration a sensitive subject.

Shahid Kapoor appears as a gunman in the film, but no character names or real-life references have been officially revealed.

About O Romeo

Directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, O Romeo marks his third collaboration with Shahid Kapoor after Kaminey and Haider. The film features a strong ensemble cast including Triptii Dimri, Vikrant Massey, Nana Patekar, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Disha Patani.

The film is scheduled to release in theatres on February 13, unless legal developments impact its launch.
