Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand have received a major boost in the latest BWF world rankings after their historic bronze-medal-winning campaign at the Badminton World Championships 2026.
The Indian women’s doubles pair climbed 12 places from World No. 39 to World No. 27 following their remarkable run in Delhi. The jump is reportedly the biggest among women’s doubles pairs ranked inside the top 50.
Treesa and Gayatri created history by winning India’s first-ever women’s doubles medal at the BWF World Championships. Their journey to the semi-finals featured impressive victories over several higher-ranked opponents and underlined their growing stature on the international badminton stage.
One of their biggest wins came in the quarter-finals, where the Indian pair defeated China’s Jia Yi Fan and Zhang Shu Xian after a gruelling one-hour and 10-minute contest. The emotional victory secured them a place in the semi-finals and guaranteed a historic medal for India.
The duo then faced World No. 1 pair Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning in the semi-finals. Treesa and Gayatri made a strong start, winning the opening game 21-18. However, the Chinese top seeds fought back to win the next two games and reach the final.
Despite the defeat, the bronze medal and their performances throughout the tournament marked a major breakthrough. Treesa’s powerful attacking game and Gayatri’s growing confidence helped the pair challenge some of the world’s strongest teams.
Their rise to World No. 27 reflects the impact of their World Championships success and gives the Indian duo fresh momentum as they aim to establish themselves among badminton’s leading women’s doubles pairs.
