At least 15 people were killed after a military cargo aircraft belonging to the Bolivian Air Force crashed in the city of El Alto on Friday evening, according to local media reports and the country’s defence ministry.
The Hercules aircraft was reportedly transporting newly printed banknotes to other parts of the country when it went down near Bolivia’s administrative capital, La Paz.
Crash Near Busy Avenue
The plane came down on a busy avenue in El Alto during poor weather conditions, officials said. Images shared by local broadcasters showed significant damage to the aircraft and nearby vehicles.
Footage circulating on social media appeared to show crowds gathering at the crash site. Some individuals were seen picking up banknotes scattered across the road. Authorities used water hoses to disperse people and secure the area.
