Albinder Dhindsa has been appointed as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Eternal Ltd., the holding company that oversees Zomato and its fast-growing quick-commerce arm Blinkit. The leadership transition comes as Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal steps aside from day-to-day management to assume the role of Vice Chairman on the board.
The change signals a decisive shift in Eternal’s evolution—from a founder-driven startup culture to a scale-focused, execution-led phase. Dhindsa, widely credited with transforming Blinkit into one of India’s most efficient quick-commerce platforms, now takes responsibility for steering a diversified digital commerce group valued at over ₹2.5 lakh crore.
Dhindsa’s journey is closely intertwined with Zomato’s early years. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi and Columbia Business School, he previously served at Zomato as Head of International Operations before launching Grofers, which later rebranded as Blinkit. His return to the group followed Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit in 2022, a deal that initially drew scrutiny but has since proven pivotal to Eternal’s growth strategy.
Today, Blinkit stands out as Eternal’s fastest-expanding vertical, with its rapid-delivery model frequently outperforming the core food delivery business in growth metrics. Industry observers note that Dhindsa’s strength lies in operational discipline, supply chain optimisation, and a sharp focus on unit economics—capabilities seen as essential for sustaining profitability in quick commerce.
With Dhindsa at the helm, Eternal now manages a complex portfolio that includes food delivery, quick commerce, B2B supplies through Hyperpure, and emerging dining-out initiatives. The immediate challenge will be balancing Blinkit’s aggressive expansion while maintaining stability and growth across the broader ecosystem.
For Goyal, the transition allows him to focus on long-term strategy and new ideas outside daily operations. For Dhindsa, the appointment represents a full-circle moment—the former insider now entrusted with leading the very empire he once helped build from the outside.
