, one of the key architects of India’s food delivery ecosystem, has stepped down as the Group Chief Executive Officer of Eternal, the holding company that houses Zomato and its allied businesses. The company has announced that Albinder Dhindsa will assume charge as the new Group CEO, subject to shareholder approval, while Goyal transitions to the role of Vice Chairman on the board.
In a regulatory disclosure, Eternal said the leadership change marks a strategic shift in operational responsibility, with day-to-day execution and business decisions now moving under Dhindsa’s leadership. Goyal will continue to remain closely associated with the company at the board level.
Born on January 26, 1983, in Muktsar, Punjab, Goyal is an alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, where he graduated in Mathematics and Computing in 2005. He launched Foodiebay in 2008 as a restaurant menu discovery platform, which was later rebranded as Zomato in 2010. While Zomato began as a discovery and review platform, it formally entered food delivery in 2015, emerging as one of the sector’s dominant players.
Over the years, Zomato expanded internationally and later diversified its operations. In 2021, the company went public, and in 2025 it was reorganised under the holding company Eternal, which also includes the quick-commerce platform Blinkit.
Explaining his decision to step down, Goyal said he wishes to pursue new, high-risk ideas that are better explored outside the structure of a publicly listed company. He added that Eternal needs focused and disciplined leadership aligned with its existing business priorities, a responsibility now entrusted to the new Group CEO. Beyond entrepreneurship, Goyal is known for his interest in poetry, books, and startup investing. He has backed several ventures across consumer brands, sustainability, and technology, and has also authored a book on workplace culture.
