CBSE Tightens Rules for Student Detail Corrections
CBSE has tightened rules for correcting student demographic details, requiring schools to submit complete certified records and warning that incomplete requests will be rejected.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has tightened the process for correcting students’ demographic details, directing schools to submit complete and properly certified records for every correction request. Incomplete requests will be rejected, the Board has warned.
In a circular issued on September 23, 2026, CBSE said schools must ensure that student details are accurate across admission forms, scholar registers, admission-withdrawal registers and transfer certificates. Verification begins during Class 9 registration, with students and parents required to check and certify the information.
The Board said students receive multiple opportunities to verify their details between Classes 9 and 12. Registration cards are provided for checking, while details are verified again before the List of Candidates is submitted and before examinations. CBSE said there are around 20 such opportunities during this period.
Despite these checks, the Board continues to receive correction requests after results are declared, often without complete supporting documents. Some schools reportedly fail to provide records from previous institutions or submit unclear documents containing multiple corrections.
CBSE has directed schools to collect complete, certified records from all previous schools attended by a student and obtain parents’ confirmation before submitting requests. Applications with incomplete documentation will be rejected.
The Board has also advised students to route correction requests through their schools instead of approaching CBSE directly or initiating legal proceedings, as missing school records can delay verification.
