Delhi Teachers Get Leave Benefits for BLO Duties During Vacations
Delhi government school teachers performing BLO duties during holidays or vacations will be eligible for special earned, compensatory or earned leave, along with prescribed election-duty remuneration.
Delhi government school teachers assigned booth-level officer (BLO) duties during holidays or school vacations will be eligible for special earned leave, compensatory leave or earned leave, according to instructions issued by the Directorate of Education.
The decision follows requests from teachers’ associations seeking leave benefits for election-related duties performed outside regular school working days. The Directorate circulated the instructions to government schools after communications from the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer and the Election Commission.
Under the new instructions, teachers deployed as BLOs during holidays or vacation periods can avail the applicable leave benefits for their election-related work.
The Election Commission has also prescribed annual remuneration for BLOs and BLO supervisors. A BLO is entitled to Rs 12,000 annually, while a BLO supervisor receives Rs 18,000.
In addition, a special incentive of Rs 2,000 is payable for work related to Special Summary Revision, Summary Revision and other special election drives.
The Directorate of Education has circulated the instructions among heads of government schools and other education officials for necessary action. The move provides formal recognition of election duties performed by teachers during periods that would otherwise fall outside their regular school schedule.
