IIT Ropar to Award MTech in Defence Technology to Indian Army Officers
IIT Ropar and the Army Air Defence College have signed an agreement to provide MTech accreditation in Defence Technology to Indian Army officers.
IIT Ropar will award MTech degrees in Defence Technology to Indian Army officers under an agreement signed with the Army Air Defence College in Gopalpur. The arrangement will provide formal postgraduate accreditation to officers undertaking the Long Air Defence Course through the institute's MTech programme.
The agreement was signed by IIT Ropar Director Professor Rajeev Ahuja and Lieutenant General Amit Rao, Commandant of the Army Air Defence College. It builds on an academic and research cooperation agreement signed in December 2022 between the Army Training Command, Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army), and IIT Ropar.
Under the new arrangement, IIT Ropar faculty members will be nominated as mentors for participating officers. They will guide the officers through dissertations and research projects as part of the postgraduate programme.
The officers will also be able to access IIT Ropar's laboratories and other institutional infrastructure, subject to prior approval. In addition, they will have opportunities to participate in seminars and lectures conducted by the institute's faculty through both online and offline modes.
The two institutions will also work together to develop technological expertise in areas of mutual interest. The collaboration is intended to strengthen the academic and research capabilities available to Army officers while expanding cooperation between the institute and the armed forces.
IIT Ropar has been working with the Indian Army on academic and research initiatives since the 2022 agreement. Its Defence Research and Innovation Foundation has also played an important role in advancing the partnership.
The latest agreement links formal postgraduate accreditation with academic mentoring, research projects and access to institutional facilities. It represents an expansion of the existing collaboration between IIT Ropar and the Army Air Defence College, with a focus on strengthening technical education and defence-related research.
