Karan Johar, Prince William Discuss India’s Rainfall and Climate Challenges
Karan Johar and Prince William discussed India’s rainfall shortages, pressure on farmers and water supplies ahead of the 2026 Earthshot Prize ceremony in Mumbai.
Filmmaker Karan Johar met Prince William in London ahead of the sixth Earthshot Prize Awards Night, which will be held in Mumbai on November 17. Their conversation focused on India’s environmental challenges, rainfall shortages, farmers, water supplies and the need for scalable climate solutions.
Prince William spoke about prolonged periods of inadequate rainfall in parts of India and the resulting pressure on farmers and water resources. He noted that extreme temperatures and water shortages were making people increasingly aware of water as a precious resource.
Karan Johar, who will host the Mumbai ceremony, said 15 finalists are competing across the Earthshot Prize categories, with five winners set to receive £1 million each to support their environmental initiatives.
Prince William highlighted India’s strong representation among the finalists and previous winners, saying he was excited to bring the ceremony to Mumbai. Karan also said the Indian representation made him proud and pointed to the business potential of several climate-focused innovations.
The pair discussed finalists including Satellites on Fire and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, covering issues such as wildfires, electric mobility and sustainable technology.
The 2026 Earthshot programme will also include a two-day summit bringing together leaders, innovators, funders, businesses and communities to collaborate on environmental solutions.
