Mumbai Protest Crackdown: Over 400 Detained at August Kranti Maidan
Police detained hundreds of protesters at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan during a demonstration held in solidarity with protests in Delhi.
More than 400 protesters were detained at Mumbai’s August Kranti Maidan on Saturday, October 10, as police moved to prevent a gathering held in solidarity with demonstrations in Delhi.

Police barricaded and cordoned off the historic ground after denying permission for the protest. Additional security personnel were deployed to stop demonstrators from moving forward, while officers carried out detentions across the area.

Protest organiser Tushar Gandhi was taken into custody earlier in the afternoon and transferred to DN Nagar police station. Actor Imran Khan was also among those detained.

The police action came amid wider demonstrations in several cities over the crackdown on protests in Delhi. Opposition leaders and supporters have criticised the restrictions and detentions, while authorities have taken security measures to prevent unauthorised gatherings.

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to lead a youth interaction in Chennai titled Chatru ki Goonj. The event was organised by the Congress as part of its parallel engagement with young people.

The developments in Mumbai and Chennai came as protests and political exchanges intensified following the detention of demonstrators and Opposition leaders in the national capital.
