Delhi Airport Detentions: CJP Leaders Held Ahead of Jantar Mantar Protest, Dhruv Rathee in Custody
Police detained Cockroach Janta Party leaders arriving from Mumbai ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was also taken into custody from his Gurugram residence.
Police detained several Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders at Delhi Airport on Saturday, October 10, ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The leaders, Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, were detained after their aircraft arrived from Mumbai. The preventive action came before the proposed demonstration, which reportedly lacked official permission.
Before his detention, Dipke named Ajinkya Shinde to lead the movement in the absence of the detained leaders. The move was intended to ensure that the group’s activities could continue despite the police action.
CJP legal head Ratna Singh was also placed under detention, according to the report.
In a separate operation, YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was taken into custody from his residence in Gurugram during a joint police raid. The circumstances surrounding his detention were not detailed in the available report.
The detentions came amid heightened security in Delhi ahead of demonstrations targeting the Election Commission and its handling of electoral roll revision. Police measures to prevent unauthorised gatherings have also led to the detention of protesters and Opposition figures.
The planned Jantar Mantar demonstration was part of a wider wave of protests and political exchanges over the electoral process and demands for accountability from the Election Commission.
