Bombay High Court Orders Rs 20 Lakh Interim Relief in Goa Nightclub Fire Case
The Bombay High Court has ordered an interim compensation deposit in the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire case in North Goa.
The Bombay High Court has directed the owners of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub to deposit Rs 20 lakh each as interim compensation for families affected by the deadly fire at the Goa establishment in December 2025.

A division bench of Justices Valmiki Menezes and Amit Jamsandekar issued the direction on Monday while hearing a petition concerning relief for victims’ families. The order concerns Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra, who own the nightclub.

The court clarified that the interim deposit would not affect either side’s position in the main case. The broader legal proceedings will continue separately.

Advocate Prachi Sawant, representing the victims’ families, told the court that they had sought Rs 50 lakh per family, while the owners had offered Rs 25 lakh. The bench suggested an interim deposit of Rs 20 lakh each and asked the parties to discuss the arrangement before the next hearing.

The court also directed the amicus curiae to prepare a detailed list of cases linked to the incident. The parties must report on their discussions by October 21, when the matter is scheduled to be heard again.

The fire broke out during a dance party on December 6, 2025, in Arpora, North Goa. It killed 25 people and injured 50 others. The Luthra brothers were deported from Thailand on December 17 and are currently lodged in Colvale Central Jail, according to the report.
