The Keralam State Child Rights Commission has registered a case after a student was allegedly made to apologise during a school assembly at Vallamangalam Higher Secondary School in Alappuzha district.
The incident came under scrutiny after videos showing the episode circulated on social media. On October 11, the commission announced that it had sought reports from officials to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The panel has requested reports from the Chengannur Regional Deputy Director of Education, the District Child Protection Officer and the school principal.
The reports are expected to clarify what led to the public apology and how the school handled the situation. However, the commission has not yet disclosed the specific allegations or detailed the events preceding the incident.
The episode has drawn attention to the treatment of students in educational institutions and prompted intervention by the state’s child rights watchdog.
The commission’s decision to seek official reports marks the beginning of a fact-finding process. The school’s response and the findings of the concerned authorities are awaited.
Further details about the student’s circumstances and the commission’s next steps have not yet been made public. The allegations will require examination before conclusions can be drawn about the incident.
