Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal held separate trade discussions with France, Canada, Saudi Arabia and South Korea on the sidelines of the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Milwaukee, focusing on trade agreements, market access and investment.

With France, Goyal discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment, accelerating the India-EU Free Trade Agreement and increasing cooperation in aerospace manufacturing, UPI integration and innovation.

His meeting with Canadian Trade Minister Maninder Sidhu focused on ongoing negotiations for the India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Both sides reaffirmed their intention to speed up talks and work towards an early conclusion.

Goyal also discussed the India-Gulf Cooperation Council FTA negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Commerce Minister Majid bin Abdullah Al-Kassabi. The talks also covered opportunities to strengthen trade and investment between the two countries.

With South Korean Trade Minister Park Jung-Sung, discussions included upgrading the India-Korea CEPA, improving balanced trade and expanding market access for Indian agricultural, pharmaceutical and marine products. Korean manufacturing investment in India was also discussed.

The meetings come as India continues efforts to expand international trade partnerships and attract manufacturing investment. With multiple FTAs and market-access negotiations moving at the same time, the trade ministry certainly has a packed calendar—because apparently one negotiation at a time would be too easy.
