Smoke rises near King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh after an attack amid escalating tensions between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Houthi rebels.
One person was killed and 11 injured in a fresh attack on Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, Saudi authorities said. The incident came a day after a separate strike killed 13 people and injured more than 300.

An unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4, triggering a fire, according to Saudi-led coalition forces. Saudi air defences also intercepted a cruise missile near the airport. Authorities reported additional interceptions involving a drone in the Eastern Province and a ballistic missile targeting Khamis Mushait.

Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack and said they had also targeted King Fahd International Airport in Dammam and two facilities belonging to Saudi Aramco. Saudi aviation authorities confirmed an incident at Dammam airport, where safety inspections and damage assessments were underway.

The attacks prompted fresh travel warnings. Britain advised its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to several Saudi cities and airports, while US aviation authorities urged American airlines to exercise caution when flying to or over the kingdom.

The escalation comes as Saudi Arabia intensifies its military campaign against the Houthis. The rebels have warned of further attacks unless Riyadh halts its operations in Yemen.

US President Donald Trump said Washington was considering joining Saudi strikes. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran was willing to help facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Saudi authorities also announced remote learning for schools in Riyadh from Sunday through Thursday as a precaution amid heightened security concerns.
