Unaccustomed Earth First Look: Freida Pinto, Siddharth Lead Netflix Drama
Netflix has unveiled the first look of Unaccustomed Earth, starring Freida Pinto and Siddharth in a multigenerational drama about love, family and belonging.
Netflix has unveiled the first look of Unaccustomed Earth, an upcoming family drama based on Jhumpa Lahiri’s acclaimed short story collection. The series stars Freida Pinto as Parul Chaudhury and Siddharth as Amit and is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on December 17, 2026.
Adapted and showrun by Madhuri Shekar, the series is set within a multigenerational Indian American community in Cambridge and Boston, Massachusetts. It explores themes of love, loss, family relationships and the search for belonging across generations.
Pinto plays Parul, a wife and mother who once sacrificed a college romance to fulfil her father’s wishes. After being diagnosed with cancer, she moves her family from India back to Cambridge, a place she considers home.
The diagnosis prompts Parul to reconsider the life she left behind and pursue choices she had previously abandoned. Her decisions gradually affect not only her family but also the wider immigrant community around her.
The ensemble cast includes Indraneil Sengupta, Parveen Kaur, Sarayu Blue, Justin Bartha, Adi Roy, Iyla Sundarsingh Mckaig and Jayant Kripalani, among others. Madhuri Shekar also serves as an executive producer alongside John Wells, Jhumpa Lahiri, Nisha Ganatra and others.
Ritesh Batra directed and executive produced the first two episodes. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and will stream on Netflix from December 17, 2026.
