Veteran Bollywood icon Dharmendra passed away on Monday at the age of 89, just days before his 90th birthday. He had been receiving treatment at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital after experiencing breathlessness in October. Though he was discharged on November 12, his health continued to remain a concern, and he breathed his last on November 24.

Dharmendra leaves behind a monumental legacy, with a filmography spanning more than six decades and over 300 films. He became a household name through memorable performances in classics such as Sholay, Phool Aur Patthar, Satyakam, Chupke Chupke, Dharam Veer, and Anupama. His remarkable on-screen charisma earned him iconic titles including “He-Man of Bollywood,” “Garam Dharam,” and “Action King.”

Beyond his cinematic achievements, Dharmendra also produced films and briefly served as a Member of Parliament. His contribution to Indian cinema was recognised in 2012 when he was awarded the Padma Bhushan, the nation’s third-highest civilian honour.

The actor’s passing has prompted an emotional outpouring from his family and the film industry. Sunny Deol, Hema Malini, Esha Deol, and other close family members were seen bidding him a heartfelt farewell. Dharmendra is survived by his first wife, Parkash Kaur, and their four children — Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Vijeta Deol, and Ajeeta Deol. He later married actor Hema Malini in 1979, with whom he has two daughters, Esha Deol and Ahana Deol.

His passing marks the end of an era, leaving an irreplaceable void in Bollywood and in the hearts of millions of admirers.
