A man in Gujarat’s Nanded was shot dead on Thursday evening, allegedly by the family of his girlfriend, who had long opposed their relationship. Hours after the killing, the woman arrived at the victim’s home and applied vermilion on her forehead near his body, declaring that she continued to consider him her partner even in death.
The couple, identified as Saksham Tatte and Aachal Mamilwar from Juna Ganj in Nanded, had reportedly been in a relationship for three years. Police said Aachal’s family had repeatedly objected to the relationship and warned Saksham to stay away from her.
On Thursday around 5:30 pm, when Aachal’s family learnt that Saksham was in the locality, her father Gajanan Mamilwar, along with his sons Sahil and Himesh and several associates, allegedly confronted him. Investigators said Saksham was first shot and then struck on the head with a large stone, leading to his death on the spot.
Police also noted that both the victim and the accused had previous criminal records. Officials said Saksham was familiar with the girl’s brothers and often visited their home. Despite repeated objections from her family, he continued to meet Aachal, which reportedly escalated tensions.
Following the murder, Aachal went to Saksham’s house and applied vermilion before his body, symbolically declaring herself his partner. She publicly demanded the death penalty for her parents and brothers, alleging they conspired to kill Saksham shortly after he was released from jail. She further claimed her family had been threatening her and targeted him because he belonged to a different caste.
Based on a complaint filed by Saksham’s mother, the Itwara Police registered a case of murder and atrocities against Aachal’s father, brothers and other accused individuals. Within 12 hours of the incident, police arrested all eight suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
