Imran Khan’s Son Raises Health Concerns

Imran Khan’s son alleges vision loss and medical neglect in jail, while Pakistan government says medical reports were shared with family.

Imran Khan’s Son Raises Health Concerns

Concerns over the health of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan have intensified after his son publicly claimed that the 73-year-old leader has suffered major vision loss while in custody.

Kasim Khan, in a post on X, alleged that his father has lost most of the vision in his right eye and now retains only 15% eyesight. He linked the reported deterioration to prolonged solitary confinement and alleged lack of proper medical care.

Allegations of Medical Neglect

According to Kasim Khan, his father has been held in solitary confinement at Adiala Jail since September 2023. He claimed that medical tests were denied and that appropriate treatment was not provided in time.

He also stated that he and his brother have been unable to obtain visas to visit their father as his health condition worsens. The family has urged international human rights organisations and legal institutions to take note of the situation.

These claims have not been independently verified.

Lawyer’s Report to Supreme Court

Advocate Salman Safdar, representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and appointed as amicus curiae by the Supreme Court, recently met Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.

In a report submitted to the court, Safdar quoted Khan as saying that he previously had normal vision in both eyes until October 2025. He reportedly began experiencing blurred and hazy vision afterward.

The report states that Khan was later diagnosed with a blood clot, which allegedly caused severe damage to his right eye. Despite receiving treatment, including an injection, he reportedly has only 15% vision remaining in that eye.

Safdar noted in his submission that Khan appeared visibly distressed and concerned about the delay in receiving specialised medical attention.

Government Response

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said that Khan’s detailed medical reports have been shared with his family.

According to earlier statements by the minister, Khan underwent a medical procedure related to an eye ailment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. The government has maintained that he is currently in good health and receiving appropriate medical care.

The statement came after PTI approached the Supreme Court seeking access to Khan’s medical records and permission for his personal doctors and relatives to meet him.

National Assembly Opposition Leader Mehmood Khan Achakzai also reportedly wrote to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding Khan’s medical examination.

Political Sensitivity

Khan has been serving a sentence following his conviction in the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case. His imprisonment and health condition remain politically sensitive issues in Pakistan.

PTI has repeatedly alleged inadequate medical care, while the government has denied the claims and stated that proper procedures are being followed.

At present, there is no official medical bulletin publicly confirming the exact extent of the reported vision loss. The matter continues to be discussed in legal and political forums.

As legal proceedings continue, attention remains focused on whether further medical evaluations or court interventions will take place in the coming days.
