Indian-Origin Trucker Arrested in US Crash

ICE arrests Indian-origin truck driver in Indiana after fatal three-vehicle crash. Advocacy groups call for fair treatment.

Indian-Origin Trucker Arrested in US Crash

An Indian-origin truck driver has been arrested in the United States following a fatal road accident in Indiana, authorities said.

According to officials, Sukhdeep Singh (25) was taken into custody by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) after he allegedly ran a red light and was involved in a three-vehicle collision in Hendricks County on February 18. The crash resulted in the death of a 64-year-old man.

Series of Recent Cases

The arrest marks the fourth case in the past six months involving an Indian-origin driver accused in fatal road accidents in the US.

In August last year, Harjinder Singh (25) was accused in Florida in connection with a crash that killed three people after allegedly making a reckless U-turn. In October, Jashanpreet Singh (21) was arrested in California for allegedly driving under the influence and being involved in a crash that claimed three lives. In November, Rajinder Kumar (32) was charged in Oregon after a semi-truck allegedly blocked lanes, leading to a collision that killed a newlywed couple.

Authorities are continuing investigations in these cases.

Community Reaction

After a White House social media post referenced the recent accidents, advocacy group United Sikhs issued a statement expressing concern over what it described as unequal treatment of a minority community.

The group urged authorities not to single out Sikh drivers and cited federal data from April 2025 showing over 528,000 truck accidents in 2023, resulting in 5,472 fatalities across the United States.

“These tragic numbers represent nationwide roadway safety challenges across all communities,” the statement noted.

Separately, the Sikh Coalition is reportedly challenging a new rule that seeks to limit the issuance of non-domiciled commercial driver’s licences.

Investigation Ongoing

Officials have not released further details about the Indiana crash. The case remains under investigation.

The incident has renewed debate around road safety, commercial driving regulations and the broader issue of how fatal accidents involving immigrant drivers are addressed in public discourse.
