Infosys Expands Four-Day Office Rule for Managers

Infosys asks more managers to work from office four days a week as part of its hybrid work policy, according to an internal HR communication.

Infosys Expands Four-Day Office Rule for Managers

Indian IT services company Infosys has reportedly expanded its return-to-office requirements, asking more employees to work from the office at least four days a week under its hybrid work model.

According to an internal email from the company’s human resources department, the updated rule now applies to employees at job level 6A and above in certain units. Earlier, the requirement mainly applied to employees at job level 7 and above, including senior managers and programme directors.

Change in Hybrid Work Expectations

The email reportedly reminded employees that managers are expected to follow the company’s hybrid work guidelines and set an example for their teams.

It stated that employees in the specified job levels should be present in the office at least four days every week, which generally equals a minimum of 10 office days per month.

HR teams will also review monthly attendance data to monitor compliance with the policy.

Part of Gradual Policy Tightening

The latest communication reflects a gradual shift in Infosys’ approach to hybrid work. Over the past year, the company has introduced several steps aimed at increasing office attendance.

In January, new conditions were introduced for employees requesting additional work-from-home days. According to reports, staff members who previously had flexibility to choose any ten office days in a month are now being asked to distribute those days across all four weeks.

Some employees also told media outlets that managers have been encouraging teams to maintain a regular office presence.

Leadership View on Hybrid Work

Earlier this year, Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said the company remained committed to a hybrid work model, which combines both office and remote work.

Company communications have stated that the approach aims to support collaboration, innovation, and business delivery while allowing employees some flexibility.

Industry Trend in IT Sector

Infosys is not the only IT firm adjusting its work policies. Several major technology companies in India have recently increased in-office requirements.

For example, Wipro introduced a policy asking employees to work from the office three days a week with a minimum daily attendance requirement.

Similarly, **Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has linked parts of employee variable pay to office attendance as part of its policy encouraging a full return to office work.

Balancing Flexibility and Productivity

Industry experts say companies are trying to balance flexible work arrangements with operational efficiency.

According to Anil Ethanur, co-founder of staffing firm Xpheno, flexible working improved productivity in many organisations initially. However, companies are now focusing on maintaining that productivity as market conditions change.

He noted that as businesses adopt technologies such as AI and automation, teams may need closer collaboration and faster decision-making, which often benefits from in-person interaction.

As a result, many technology companies are gradually tightening hybrid work policies while still keeping some flexibility for employees.
