Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister highlighted how players representing different countries continue to remain connected to their Indian roots.

“A Moment of Joy”

Modi said many viewers may have noticed players with Indian names wearing the jerseys of other nations. He described the feeling as a “slight joy” when seeing such players represent their adopted countries with dedication.

According to him, these athletes represent their respective nations wholeheartedly while still carrying a connection to their heritage.

Canada Team Mentioned

The Prime Minister specifically referred to the Canadian team, which fielded several players of Indian origin in the tournament.

He named captain Dilpreet Bajwa, born in Gurdaspur, Punjab, along with Navneet Dhaliwal from Chandigarh. Other players mentioned included Harsh Thakar and Shreyas Movva.

He said these players are bringing pride not only to Canada but also to India.

USA and Oman Also Recognised
