US President Donald Trump launched a sharp critique of several American allies during a cabinet meeting, accusing long-standing partners of taking economic advantage of the United States. While initially saying he would not reveal names, he went on to jokingly single out Japan and South Korea, drawing laughter from officials present.
Trump argued that his tariff policies were helping the US recover losses from trade partners he believes have “ripped off” the country for decades. He reiterated his proposal to distribute dividend cheques to American citizens from tariff revenues and even suggested that these revenues could one day eliminate federal income tax.
During the meeting, which extended beyond 30 minutes, Trump addressed a broad range of issues including trade negotiations, NATO commitments, health care costs, and domestic energy policy. He repeated his long-standing claim that the US has been treated unfairly by other nations across multiple economic and security agreements.
The president also attacked Democratic messaging on affordability, calling it misleading, and criticised Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell as a “stubborn ox.” He went on to claim that drug prices were being drastically reduced under his administration and renewed his criticism of the Affordable Care Act, saying health funds should reach citizens directly rather than insurance companies.
Trump further asserted that he had effectively dismantled environmental policies he labelled as the “green new scam,” dismissing global warming discussions as exaggerated. He then targeted former President Joe Biden, complaining that the media unfairly scrutinises him for fewer press conferences.
During the meeting, observers noticed a patch of makeup on Trump’s hand. The White House said it was used to conceal bruising caused by vigorous handshakes and daily aspirin intake as part of his preventive health routine.
The president concluded by praising his own health and mental sharpness, claiming he performed exceptionally well in a recent physical examination.
The situation continues to draw wide political reactions as the administration pushes forward with its tariff-driven economic strategy.
