Trump Announces $5B Gaza Aid via ‘Board of Peace’

US President Donald Trump has announced that more than $5 billion has been pledged by member states for humanitarian aid and reconstruction efforts in Gaza under his newly formed initiative called the “Board of Peace.”

In a post shared on his platform Truth Social, Trump described the Board of Peace as a major international body aimed at advancing peace negotiations and stabilisation efforts in Gaza. He said he would serve as chairman of the initiative.

According to Trump, the board has already helped speed up humanitarian assistance and played a role in securing the release of hostages. He stated that member nations have committed financial support exceeding $5 billion for Gaza’s recovery.

Trump said he plans to meet board members at the Donald J. Trump Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., on February 19, where he expects to formally announce the pledged funds.

He also mentioned that thousands of personnel have committed to joining an International Stabilization Force, along with local police, to maintain security and peace in Gaza.

The initiative is linked to a broader 20-point plan that Trump first introduced in September. The proposal outlines a framework for Gaza’s redevelopment and governance, including the deployment of a multinational stabilisation force once Hamas agrees to full demilitarisation.

Trump has stated that the plan was later endorsed by the United Nations Security Council under Resolution 2803 in November 2025. The resolution reportedly supports the framework for stabilisation and reconstruction in Gaza.

Under the proposal, a transitional Palestinian governance committee, overseen by the Board of Peace, would manage day-to-day administration in the territory.

Reports indicate that more than 20 countries have joined the initiative. However, the formation and structure of the board have drawn international scrutiny. Some Western allies have reportedly expressed caution about its governance model, while others have declined to join.

Trump described the Board of Peace as having “unlimited potential” and called it one of the most significant international efforts toward resolving the conflict.

He also emphasised that Hamas must commit to full and immediate demilitarisation as part of the peace process.

Critics have noted that Hamas has historically resisted disarmament and has described it as a key condition in negotiations. While some signals of conditional cooperation have been reported in the past, no final agreement has been publicly confirmed.

The announcement comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to maintain a ceasefire and address humanitarian conditions in Gaza. International agencies have repeatedly highlighted the need for sustained aid, reconstruction support and long-term governance solutions.

As discussions continue, the focus remains on how pledged funds will be distributed and how security arrangements will be implemented on the ground.

The White House has not yet released detailed operational guidelines for the stabilisation force or funding mechanisms.

The coming weeks are expected to bring further clarity on the role of participating countries and the timeline for implementing the proposed redevelopment framework.
