The United States has significantly increased its military presence in the Middle East, deploying advanced fighter jets, aircraft carriers and missile defence systems as tensions with Iran intensify.
According to international media reports, the scale of deployment is the largest seen in the region since the 2003 Iraq War.
Fighter Jets and Warships Deployed
The US has moved cutting-edge F-35 and F-22 fighter aircraft toward the Middle East in recent days. Flight-tracking data and officials cited by global media suggest that these stealth jets are now positioned closer to the region.
Alongside the aircraft, two major US Navy carriers — USS Gerald R. Ford and USS Abraham Lincoln — are operating within range of Iran’s coastline.
The USS Gerald R. Ford reportedly carries attack aircraft and electronic-warfare planes. Command-and-control aircraft and missile defence systems have also been deployed, indicating preparation for a possible sustained air campaign.
Why Tensions Are Rising
Tensions between Washington and Tehran escalated after protests in Iran over rising inflation turned into broader anti-government demonstrations. The Iranian government launched a crackdown on protestors.
The focus has now shifted to Iran’s nuclear programme. US officials have repeatedly expressed concerns about uranium enrichment and missile capabilities.
Donald Trump has reportedly received multiple briefings outlining military options. However, US officials maintain that no final decision has been made on whether to carry out strikes.
What Could Happen Next?
According to reports, potential US military options range from targeted strikes on nuclear and missile facilities to a wider campaign aimed at weakening Iran’s leadership and regional proxies.
Experts cited in global coverage suggest that any large-scale operation could last weeks rather than being a one-time strike. The current buildup gives Washington the ability to conduct sustained operations if ordered.
At the same time, diplomatic efforts are ongoing. Representatives from the US and Iran recently met in Geneva to discuss a possible agreement on uranium enrichment.
The White House has said there has been “some progress” in talks, but both sides remain far apart on key issues.
For now, the situation remains tense, with military preparedness increasing even as diplomatic negotiations continue.
