Hindu College Staff Association Seeks DU Takeover, Independent Probe
Hindu College’s staff association has alleged irregularities in admissions, finances, appointments and governance and urged Delhi University to take over the college and order an independent inquiry.
The Hindu College Staff Association has urged Delhi University to take over the college and order an independent, time-bound inquiry into alleged irregularities involving admissions, finances, procurement, appointments, governance and student welfare.
In a memorandum submitted to the DU Vice Chancellor, the association alleged violations of admission rules, including breaches of the prescribed 20% cap for supernumerary admissions. It also questioned whether a staff meeting was presented as a Staff Council meeting despite the elected secretary not convening or attending it.
The association raised concerns over delays or denial of study leave, childcare leave, sabbaticals and promotions, along with what it described as the bypassing of the statutory Staff Council through parallel committees.
Financial concerns included alleged irregularities in hostel mess tenders, prolonged outsourcing of security and sanitation services, use of college resources for commercial activities and non-disclosure of audit and financial records. The staff body sought greater transparency in governing body minutes, accounts, tenders, contracts, fees and scholarship guidelines.
Student welfare was also flagged, including annual fee increases, grievance mechanisms and scholarship allocation. The association further sought inquiries into fire incidents, structural defects and seepage in newer buildings.
It demanded the removal of the college’s Governing Body chairman and principal to facilitate an impartial investigation, while asking DU to assume temporary control of the institution.
The allegations remain claims made by the staff association and would require independent verification. In short, the campus agenda has moved well beyond attendance sheets.
