The Puranic Bhagavad Gita Series: How Sanjaya Received Divine Vision
Maharishi Ved Vyasa grants Sanjaya divine vision, allowing him to witness and narrate the events unfolding at Kurukshetra.
The Puranic's new Bhagavad Gita series begins not with Krishna's teachings, but with the story that sets the narrative in motion. Episode 1 takes viewers to the royal court of Hastinapur, where Dhritarashtra awaits news from the battlefield as the sounds of conches and war drums signal the beginning of the Kurukshetra war.

According to the traditional narrative, Maharishi Ved Vyasa visits the blind king and informs him that the great war has begun. Vyasa offers Dhritarashtra divine vision, allowing him to witness the events despite his blindness. However, Dhritarashtra refuses, saying that although he wants to know what is happening, he does not wish to see the destruction of his own family.

Instead, he asks to hear a complete account of the battle.

Ved Vyasa then grants Sanjaya divya drishti, enabling him to perceive events taking place on the distant battlefield. Sanjaya becomes Dhritarashtra's narrator, describing the armies, warriors and developments at Kurukshetra.

This narrative framework becomes central to the Bhagavad Gita. Through Sanjaya's account, the audience is introduced to the battlefield and eventually to the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna that forms the core of the Gita.

The episode ends with the story moving from the palace of Hastinapur towards Kurukshetra, as the sounds of war grow louder.

By establishing Sanjaya's perspective first, The Puranic sets the context for the chapters and teachings that follow, inviting viewers to explore the Bhagavad Gita as part of the larger Mahabharata narrative rather than as a collection of isolated verses.
