Sona Mohapatra has criticised online abuse after questioning Rahul Gandhi over governance and environmental concerns in Himachal Pradesh.
Singer Sona Mohapatra has called out online abuse following her criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over the condition of Himachal Pradesh.

The singer shared a screenshot of abusive comments on social media and tagged an account she said had repeatedly posted offensive messages. She also questioned whether her political views had contributed to the backlash.

The controversy began after Mohapatra urged Rahul Gandhi to focus on Himachal Pradesh, a Congress-governed state. She said she was shocked by the condition of its hills and rivers during a visit after nine years.

In her post on X, she asked the Congress leader to address garbage-covered hills and polluted rivers, arguing that the state should become an example of good governance.

Her remarks followed Gandhi’s comments on repairing Indian democracy. He had said that the departure of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the government would pave the way for democratic reforms.

Mohapatra later questioned the response to her criticism, contrasting it with her earlier social media post about indiscriminate mining in Odisha’s hills. She said that post had not attracted a similar level of hostility.

Her comments prompted mixed reactions online. Some users supported her call for better governance in Congress-ruled states, while others criticised her remarks.

The episode has renewed attention on the abusive exchanges that can follow political debates on social media.
