Tamil Nadu Govt Takes Action Against 5 Cops in Bribery Cases
Five Tamil Nadu police personnel have faced disciplinary action in separate bribery cases, including suspensions and the dismissal of a sub-inspector.
Five police personnel in Tamil Nadu have faced disciplinary action within a week in separate cases involving allegations of demanding or accepting bribes, with action ranging from suspension to dismissal.
In Tirunelveli, head constable Sorna Raj was suspended after allegedly demanding Rs 1,000 from a two-wheeler rider during a vehicle check. The officer allegedly shared his Google Pay number after finding that the rider had incomplete documents.
In Chennai, sub-inspector Sivaraj and constable Vivek of North Beach Police Station were suspended following an Internal Vigilance Cell inquiry into an alleged Rs 10,000 payment made through Google Pay. The payment was reportedly linked to the release of a stolen two-wheeler.
A sub-inspector posted at Madhavaram Police Station was also suspended after a preliminary inquiry found a bribery complaint against the officer established.
The strongest disciplinary action was taken against sub-inspector Marishwaran of Puzhal Police Station, who was dismissed after a departmental inquiry found allegations of demanding and accepting bribes to be established. The allegations dated back to his posting at Anna Nagar Police Station in 2024.
The cases involve different alleged demands and payments, with disciplinary action based on individual inquiries.
Apparently, even bribery has entered the digital-payment era—but this time, the transaction trail may have made things considerably less convenient.
