Veteran filmmaker M M Baig, known for his work in Hindi cinema and as the father of former child artist Baby Guddu, was found dead at his Mumbai residence earlier this week. He was in his 70s.

According to his publicist, Baig had been unwell for some time and was living alone. Neighbours reportedly alerted the police after noticing a foul smell coming from his apartment.

Police officials opened the door and found him deceased inside the house. His body was later taken to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Authorities have informed his family.

Career in Hindi Cinema

Baig began his journey in the film industry as an assistant director. Over the years, he worked with established filmmakers such as J. Om Prakash, Vimal Kumar, and Rakesh Roshan.

He was associated with several mainstream Hindi films during his early career. Later, he directed projects including Massom Gawah, starring Naseeruddin Shah, although the film reportedly remained unreleased. He also directed Chhoti Bahu, featuring Shilpa Shirodkar.

According to his publicist, Baig also shared a close professional relationship with Rakesh Roshan and contributed to mentoring Hrithik Roshan in areas such as diction and dialogue delivery before his debut in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai.

About Baby Guddu

Baig’s daughter, Baby Guddu, whose real name is Shahinda Baig, was one of the most recognised child actors of the 1980s. She appeared in popular films including Aakhir Kyon?, Nagina, Pyar Kiya Hai Pyar Karenge, and Aulad.

The film fraternity and industry colleagues have expressed grief over Baig’s passing. Further details regarding the cause of death are awaited, pending official confirmation.
