Indian badminton player Lakshya Sen has reached the final of the All England Open Badminton Championships after defeating Canada’s Victor Lai in a closely contested semifinal on Saturday.
Sen, currently ranked 12th in the world, secured the win with a scoreline of 21-16, 18-21, 21-15 in a match that lasted one hour and 37 minutes.
Hard-Fought Semifinal Victory
The match saw both players competing intensely across three games. Sen took the first game 21-16 before Lai, who is ranked world No. 16, fought back to win the second game 21-18.
In the deciding game, Sen regained control and maintained a steady lead to close out the match 21-15 and book his place in the final.
Second All England Final
This marks Sen’s second appearance in the final of the prestigious tournament. He previously finished as runner-up in 2022.
The All England Open is one of the most respected events in international badminton and is part of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 series.
Strong Run in the Tournament
Sen has delivered several impressive performances during the tournament. Earlier in the competition, he defeated China’s Shi Yu Qi, the world No. 1, in the opening round.
He later beat China’s Li Shi Feng, ranked world No. 6, in straight games during the quarterfinal stage.
Final Opponent Confirmed
In the final, Sen will face Lin Chun-Yi of Chinese Taipei. Chun-Yi secured his spot in the final after defeating Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn, who is ranked world No. 2.
The final will take place on Sunday, where Sen will aim to capture his first All England Open title.
