Silchar Gangrape Case: One Held, Probe Underway
A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in Silchar, Assam. Police have arrested one accused and are searching for others. Investigation is ongoing.

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped in Silchar town of Assam’s Cachar district, police said. One person has been arrested in connection with the case, and efforts are on to trace the remaining accused.
According to the survivor’s complaint, the incident took place on the night of February 19 on the Ramnagar bypass road. She and her fiancé were travelling in a car when they stopped near the Chengkoorie Road area.
Allegations by Survivor
The woman alleged that a group of youths arrived in another vehicle and blocked their path. She stated that her fiancé was dragged a short distance away and restrained.
She further alleged that the accused sexually assaulted her one after another. The area was reportedly deserted, and no one was present nearby to intervene.
Police said the woman also alleged that the accused took Rs 10,000 from the couple. Investigators are examining this aspect along with the primary charges.
Case Registered Under BNS
Based on the complaint, Silchar Sadar police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to gangrape, criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation, assault on a woman and dacoity.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das said one accused has been taken into custody. “The survivor’s medical examination has been conducted and the report is awaited. Investigation is progressing on multiple fronts,” he said.
Search for Remaining Accused
Police teams are conducting raids to identify and arrest the remaining suspects. Officials said CCTV footage, call records and other technical evidence are being examined.
Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The identity of the survivor has not been disclosed in accordance with Supreme Court guidelines in sexual assault cases.
