Abe Memorial Corridor Honouring Shinzo Abe Opens in Varanasi
The Abe Memorial Corridor has been inaugurated at Varanasi’s Rudraksh Convention Centre, commemorating former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and highlighting the longstanding India-Japan partnership.
The Abe Memorial Corridor was inaugurated at the Rudraksh International Convention Centre in Varanasi on Wednesday, commemorating former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his contribution to India-Japan relations. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Abe’s wife, Akie Abe, attended the ceremony.
The corridor features memories linked to India-Japan relations and the friendship between Abe and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Akie Abe recalled Abe’s 2015 visit to Varanasi with Modi and said she had long wanted to visit the city herself.
The Kashi-Kyoto connection was also highlighted as a symbol of the cultural links between the two countries. Varanasi and Kyoto have been associated with cooperation in areas including heritage, culture and sustainable urban development.
Adityanath said the India-Japan partnership has expanded beyond cultural ties into areas such as technology, investment and emerging industries. He also highlighted the presence of Japanese companies in India and growing cooperation in fields including semiconductors, artificial intelligence, green hydrogen and critical minerals.
The corridor places Abe’s legacy alongside the evolving India-Japan relationship, giving the partnership a permanent reminder in one of India’s most historic cities.
