Akhilesh Yadav to Skip INDIA Bloc Meet as Congress-SP Seat Sharing Tensions Surface
Akhilesh Yadav will miss the September 30 INDIA bloc meeting, while Congress-SP differences over Uttar Pradesh seat sharing remain under discussion.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is set to skip the INDIA bloc meeting scheduled for September 30 in New Delhi, citing other commitments. Senior SP leaders are expected to represent the party at the meeting.
His absence comes amid reported differences between the Congress and SP over preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Seat sharing remains an important issue, with reports indicating that the Congress has sought a larger number of constituencies while the SP is yet to finalise its position.
The SP has indicated that candidate lists, regional equations and other political considerations would need to be examined before any alliance arrangement is settled.
The September 30 meeting will primarily focus on opposition coordination over issues involving the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Opposition parties are also discussing a joint strategy concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Congress Working Committee is scheduled to meet on September 29, ahead of the broader INDIA bloc meeting.
While several opposition parties are expected to participate in the September 30 discussions, Akhilesh's decision to stay away adds another layer to ongoing coordination among the parties ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh polls.
