Indian boxers Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal reached the Asian Games 2026 finals with semifinal wins, while Narender Berwal secured a bronze medal in the men’s +90kg category.
India’s boxing campaign at the Asian Games 2026 gained further momentum as Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal booked their places in the finals, while Narender Berwal secured a bronze medal in the men’s +90kg category.
Parveen defeated China’s Li Shu 5-0 in the women’s 65kg semifinal. After narrowly taking the opening round 3-2, she dominated the next two rounds 5-0 to seal a unanimous victory. She will now face Chinese Taipei’s Chen Nien-chin for the gold medal.
Ankush produced an impressive comeback in the men’s 80kg semifinal against Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboev. Trailing 1-4 after the first round, Ankush fought back to win the second 3-2 before dominating the final round 5-0. He eventually secured a 4-1 split-decision victory. The result makes him the first Indian male boxer to reach an Asian Games final since Amit Panghal’s gold-medal run in 2018.
Narender lost his +90kg semifinal 0-5 to Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay, the reigning super heavyweight world champion. His semifinal defeat earned him a bronze medal, adding to the bronze he won at the 2022 Hangzhou Games.
With these results, India have now secured six boxing medals at the ongoing Asian Games, already surpassing the five-medal tally from the previous edition.
