Shubman Gill Equals ICC Award Record as Shafali Verma Wins September Honour
Shubman Gill won his fifth ICC Player of the Month award after record-breaking ODI performances against the West Indies, while Shafali Verma earned the women’s honour following India’s Asia Cup and Asian Games victories.
India captain Shubman Gill and opener Shafali Verma have won the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for September 2026. Gill was rewarded for his outstanding ODI performances against the West Indies, while Shafali impressed with both bat and ball.
Gill has now won the monthly award five times, matching the record held by West Indies captain Hayley Matthews. His previous honours came in January and September 2023, and February and July 2025.
Gill scored 110 in the first ODI against the West Indies before smashing 223 off 133 balls in the second. His double-century powered India’s successful chase of 406, which the team completed with eight wickets and 39 balls to spare.
Shafali claimed her second ICC monthly award after a remarkable September. She scored 360 runs in seven T20 internationals at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 184.61. She also took six wickets during the month.
At the Women’s Asia Cup, Shafali topped the run charts with 236 runs in five innings. She scored half-centuries in both the semi-final and final as India secured their eighth title.
She continued her form at the Asian Games, scoring 188 runs in three innings. Her unbeaten 100 off 49 balls against Bangladesh in the semi-final marked her maiden T20I century. India later defeated Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the gold-medal match.
The double award win highlights the contributions of both Indian players during a successful month for the national teams.
