ED Attaches UP Madrasa Teacher’s Land Over Salary Drawn After UK Citizenship
The Enforcement Directorate has provisionally attached a Rs 53.46 lakh plot linked to a UP madrasa teacher accused of drawing government benefits after acquiring British citizenship.
The Enforcement Directorate has provisionally attached a residential plot worth Rs 53.46 lakh in Uttar Pradesh’s Sant Kabir Nagar in a money laundering case involving madrasa teacher Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan.
According to the agency, Khan acquired British citizenship in December 2013 but allegedly continued to draw salary and other government benefits as an assistant teacher at a government-aided madrasa in Azamgarh.
The ED said Khan remained listed as an employee between 2007 and 2017, despite his service allegedly not being verified. He was later granted voluntary retirement and a regular pension, the agency said.
The agency alleged that Khan received around Rs 53.46 lakh through salary, pension, GPF and other allowances. It has classified the amount as alleged proceeds of crime under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.
The attached property measures 189.75 square metres and was purchased in Khalilabad after Khan had obtained British citizenship, according to the ED. The agency said the property was attached at equivalent value after the alleged funds had been dissipated.
The case originated from an FIR registered by Uttar Pradesh Police. The ED conducted searches in Sant Kabir Nagar in February 2026 and said documents recovered during the searches supported its action.
The agency has also made separate allegations concerning Khan’s alleged links with organisations in Pakistan. Those claims remain allegations by the investigating agency.
